Thrifting Treasures

The other day, Finn and I had a date...just the two of us. We went thrifting.

We found lots o' treasures and had lots o' fun.

At the thrift store we went to, there's a silent auction where you can bid on higher end items.

We totally have this Coke truck and it's totally in the sandbox outside.

I thought this was cool--it was a fancy old ashtray. Looks very Victorian to me.

Now onto the non-auction items. Here's an old glass box that you could use as a jewelry box or to display things that you don't want little hand touching.

I always check out the textiles when thrifting. I've found so many bed linens, curtains, etc for my own house this way. Loved this wool blanket.

A pair of matching shams that were pretty.

This table would be cool when/if painted.

Classic-looking bentwood chair.

You might laugh at this (or me) but I totally loved this little settee. You could either paint out the cane surround or leave as is. The cushions could be swapped out for freshly-covered ones if gold isn't your color. It was priced a little high, otherwise I would have snatched this puppy up for our family room.

There was a random marble table top sitting on top of another coffee table. A lady told me that someone bought the table but didn't want the marble top so they left it there. WHAT?? I was trying to think of where I could work this marble into my house, but nothing came to me. Dang it.

There are always plenty of tables at thrift stores. I liked the shape and size of this one. Just needed a little TLC and some paint. (in the gray family, if you ask me)

Cute little side table with lots of potential!

I loved this photograph of a WWII Navy boat. So cool with the Statue of Liberty in the background. (there were three different ones there)

If I had a place for it, I would have totally snatched up this gorgeous chandy.

I did pick this little guy up for $25. It'll probably go in the boys' bathroom.

An old sideboard with cool hardware.

This piece was an antique with wavy glass. It was pretty amazing.

Along with the star pendant, I did bring home a few other things. I nabbed this card catalog file for $2. I'm thinking it'll hold odds and ends in the boys' bathroom.

Since our former ice bucket now performs a "different task" in Finn's room, I grabbed this one (that's insulated inside) for a couple bucks. (Have any idea what the old one is up to these days?? See if you can figure it out here.)

Of course there's always something available for the boys.

Can you guess who got what? (again, check this out for a clue)

Have you gotten anything good lately at a thrift store? It had been a while since my last time out, so it felt good to get back in the swing of things again. And of course having a cute 10 month old there to smile at the help never hurts either.

Kat, I love the WW 2 pictures! You don't own an etsy shop, do you?

  3. I used to LOVE taking the kids antiquing. I'd give them a few dollars and say' have at it.' Bryn started a postcard collection that she's still adding to- 20+ years later!

  4. That marble top would be a perfect bathroom vanity? That settee would have to go home with me. ps just saw the new picture of you over there ---> you look beautiful!
