Switcheroo and a Thank You!

First of all, let me just say you guys are awesome. Thanks for all the feedback regarding our ho-hum ceiling fan. I love that we're like-minded. I hesitated to even do a post on it because I didn't want people to think I was some sort of ceiling fan snob. What's that girl's problem? That fan is brand spankin' and she's complaining about it! But no, you guys could see straight through that faux marble glass and see it for what it truly is: totally not us. I'm still not quite sure what we're going to do with it. Mitch could go either way and so could I. We think it'd be cool to transform it into something we like, but then again I can see us packin' it back up and sending that bad boy where he belongs--buried underneath a pile of lonely returns in a Lowe's cart. (aww...that kinda makes me sad thinking about it that way...shoot, maybe we'll give him another chance at life.) I do like the idea of painting the blades dark--the same color as the ceiling. Joan actually suggested we do that to our bedroom fan. Just the blades. She said that was one "trick" she always did to fans to make them blend in more. And of course if we keep it, we'll be swapping out those globes for sure. So we'll see.

In other news, I wanted to show a little update in the bedroom. Get ready for it...it's life changing. I switched up the bedding.

Well just the pillows, really. It was all stuff that I already had, so don't worry, I didn't spend a fortune. The blue ticking pillow cases I found at a thrift store. I originally had the boys' beds in mind, but I think they look great in here. They're vintage. Like too-old-to-rip-off-the-tag vintage. Just can't bring myself to do it.

The switch-up was inspired by this picture from the latest edition of Country Living.

Check it--sorta the same angle. But I have a barn door in the background:)
(and you can spy our gallery wall in the bathroom...reveal coming soon!)

I was diggin' the touches of red. So I copied it.

Speaking of copying, check out what it's in this month's edition of Better Homes and Gardens.
And yes, I totally took a picture with my iPhone. That's what they call classy.

Did ya see it? A huge driftwood mirror! I knew I was on to somethin' ;)

And that's all I got, folks. Hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. I'll share with you a design trick I learned a long time ago for ceiling fans and works wonderfully every time. I always paint the entire ceiling fan the same color as the walls and/or ceiling. I just try to make it go away. I just renovated our beach home and the entire house is SW Pearly White, including the previously bright white ceiling fans. The difference is unbelievable. Doesn't work with every setting; i.e., dark rooms, etc., but works a lot of the time.

  2. Love the new bed look. So crisp and clean looking. I'm getting ready to change mine, take out the cranberry red and brown, bring in crisp white, navy and LIME GREEN. ;-)
WOW that mirror looks just like your's, WAY TO GO.

  3. I really like that ceiling fan, but I think you should swap it out with the one in your master bedroom. I just think the more modern design would look better with your boys' bedroom ceiling, and the more traditional design would look better in your room.

  4. HI Kat, I like what you did with your bedding. It's great. What's funny is I think I noticed you pinned that inspiration pic on pinterest(I follow you) and you might've made a comment. And, then to see you actually put your inspiration into action is great!! And, I love your driftwood mirror!
