Lace 'em Up!

Those up there would be my new sneaks I got like a month ago. Aren't they fun? I needed a new pair because the ones I were using were literally like 10 years old. Okay, maybe not that old, but I'm pretty sure I had them before I was married (which we're workin' on 8 this year). So it was definitely time. Plus, there's nothing like a new pair of kicks to motivate ya to work out. So I got my fun new Adidas running shoes and went back to kickboxing class. It felt great. Until this past Monday night (aka kickboxing night). Ugh. So we were doing suicides (remember that horrible invention by your basketball coach--sprint to the foul line, come back, sprint to half court, come back, far foul line, then full court??) Yeah, I about died. Is there any worse feeling out there than suckin' for wind?? So now I'm determined. I ain't gonna die the next time we do suicides (that just sounds weird...you know what I mean). I'm strappin' on my sneakers today and goin' for a run. Who's with me?!! No? Okay, whatever. Still doin' it.

Ya know another thing I really need to work on is my core. Shoot, after three babies, it ain't lookin' pretty. You know it's bad when you're at the chiropractor and you go to sit up from lying flat on your back and you get stuck mid-way up. Then you gotta use your elbows to push yourself up the rest of the way. That's not cool. I sheepishly looked at my chiro and said, "Yeah, it's time to do some crunches." He actually suggested planks, so that's what I've been doing. Guys, it's bad. I seriously can't even do one full sit-up. There. I said it. Think what you will.

And I have to show you my new pullover that I got at GW a little while ago. A girl's gotta look and feel cute to work out, am I right?

Did you know that Goodwill carries new items from Target? I was told that GW purchases things from Target to resell at their stores. That pullover was brand spankin'. I even got a new sports bra at GW. Are you grossed out now? It's new, people. As in, never been worn. It's super cute too--magenta pink...love it. (Sorry, not gonna model that one for ya.) But yeah, you don't have to spend a fortune on new workout clothes to look cute sweatin' to the oldies. Just go to Goodwill:) So now there's no excuse, right?

I told Mitch that when he comes home from work today, I was gonna go out for a run. Now I gotta stick to my guns 'cause I'm telling you guys:/ So wish me luck please. Ya gotta start somewhere! How about you? Are you breakin' out your sneakers and sweatin' it up today? What do you do to stay in shape? Do you have a secret killer core workout and you can't wait to show off your abs of steel? Do tell, please.

  2. Since it has finally started warming up a little here in Upstate New York I have vowed to walk at least an hour a day. I love getting out of the house for some fresh air.
We only have the Salvation Army in my area no Goodwills not sure why. But I totally agree you can find some great deals. I found some great like new LL Bean hiking boots today for $5.

  3. I HATED running in High School, but decided to try it again when I wanted to get "fit" after my three. I'd walk a few holes on the course and then run two. Slowly, I'd add a few more running holes. I eventually got to running the whole course (4 -5 miles). Last year I completed 3 half marathons. If I can do it, anyone can! Now I love it because it gets me outside (instead of being in front of a exercise DVD). If you can find a running partner, it makes long runs that much more bearable.

    1. Wow, that's so cool, Michele. Someday I want to run in some sort of race...someday. This was the inspiration I needed to hear! Thanks and way to go:)

  4. I ran cross country in high school (not well, mind you) but it was a good 6-8 miles a day for practice. Now a mile is like hell. I'm more of a gym person, so it's back at it this week after a hiatus from a cold. Also, yoga really helps with core strength. If you've never done it I suggest a few classes just to make sure you're doing the poses properly, but otherwise it's a super easy work out to do at home. Let's do it, girl!!

  5. I did the "Couch to the 5k" program LAST summer. I was so out of shape that I had to repeat week three. I could barely breathe. And now I'm back to square one. I think the trick to successful running is wearing cute clothes! You totally rock!

  6. Thank God my one knee is bad. My excuse for not 'running'. Does this excuse work for everything else I wonder?

  7. Good luck! Running isn't fun until it is over and you are pumped you did it! My Dr told me to stop running when I got pregnant and I dread having to start from scratch again.
I love buying Target things from Goodwill. They don't ever go on their 1/2 price sale, but they are still a great deal for NEW clothes!
