Master Bedroom Reveal

Well the day has finally arrived! I'm ready to show you our bedroom. For those just joining MLST, it has taken over three years of planning, demo-ing, and reno-ing to get to where we are right now. A little over three years ago, Mitch and I had to decide if we were going to move or stay and renovate to make our house larger. At the time, our house was a tiny two bed/one bath rancher and we had two children. Things were getting tight. Now we have a three bed/two bath rancher and three boys:) This reno took a while, obviously, but I can honestly say--the hard work has paid off. With help from friends, we did all the work ourselves, and other than borrowing a little bit from a family member for our kitchen renovation, we've done the whole thing debt-free. It feels great and now we have a master bedroom that feels like "us." Okay enough talk. Let me show you where we started. Remember, this space used to be our garage.

These were the early days. At this point, Mitch pretty much had no idea what he was doing. "I'll take this here screwdriver and chip away at this hole in the wall..." is probably what he's thinking:) We literally started from scratch and have learned SO MUCH along the way. Shoot, Mitch even learned how to do electrical and plumbing work. I'm so proud of him. Seriously. So proud.

This is the stairwell going into our finished basement. It's now closed in. (that reveal is coming soon!)

And this angle-shot is now where our bedroom is located.

Are you ready?? EEK!!

Same angle shot

Now get ready for a picture overload. I'll do a follow-up post on all the details.

  20. Hey Kat!
First time for me stopping in too, I am REALLY impressed with what you and Mitch have done, love your taste in decorating and all the little touches that make it unique. Just the right amount of good ole nostalgia without it seeming cluttered, BTW I have Peterson's field guide to birds from my grandma :) Classic.
Congrats on finishing a great project...I'll stay tuned for that bathroom!

  22. I love the coziness of your home. This is an amazing transformation, it's hard to believe it was once a garage. I love all your collected pieces. You prove that you can have a beautiful home on a budget. I'm drawn to your blog because it's different from the rest. I honestly hate the waste I see on other home blogs. I love how you repurpose, thrift and rehab. Keep up the good work.

It is the sound of cameras clicking for magazine shoots you are going to have for every home decorating mag on the planet! You both should be so proud of yourselves. And know this....this is the first time I have looked at a driftwood mirror and said "I have to have one like that"...the size, the not super round shape, love it! You put your heart in it guys, and it shows. I LOVE the room. You seriously INSPIRE ME ev.er.y.day Kat!

  35. Wow! Your new bedroom is beautiful! My room has French doors, but I'm thinking of getting a sliding door after seeing yours. What I love most about your room though are the windows! I love how the 2 windows framed your bed; and the huge bay window seems like a nice place to curl up in front of with a good book. :) Thanks for sharing, Kat!
