Stained vs. Painted

Meet our brand new double sink vanity.

Now say goodbye to our brand new double sink stained vanity. I'm painting her today.

When we picked this vanity out (over two years ago), I liked the stained look. Well, I should say, I liked this stained one over a white painted one that we originally were going to get. The painted one just looked cheap. So we bought this one. And after Mitch installed the flooring, I told him that I wasn't quite sure the stained wood vanity would look right with this rustic-ish looking flooring. When we brought the vanity over, my doubts were confirmed and I bought yet another gallon of paint. (Don't you agree? The flooring is too casual for this "fancier" stained piece of furniture.) I'm excited about it though since it'll be the same color as the door and window trim (yummy Ben Moore Dragon's Breath). This is the look I'm going for.

Am I crazy for painting a perfectly decent brand new piece of furniture? Oh and I have new hardware for it too that I'm super stoked about. It matches the hardware on our wardrobes:) That's how I'm tying the two rooms together (master bedroom and bathroom) with paint and hardware. So stay tuned! I'll show off our vanity's new look soon. Hopefully sooner than later but there's a certain two week old that may have different plans;)

  1. I don't blame you at all! I have a perfectly good brand new stained vanity that I am dying to take a paint brush to. It feels too grown up for me & my house. Like it's a piece of heirloom furniture that I shouldn't brush my teeth over for fear of getting toothpaste on the wood...

  2. I didn't even notice the floor until you mentioned it. You're right. It's going to look great painted!

  3. If it were an older piece, I'd probably hate to see you paint it. But it's not. Paint away! I'm not sure what this means about my stance on stain vs. paint; probably something inconsistent. Oh well. I think grey will look awesome, btw.

  10. Hopefully by now you have that cabinet painted. I think painted is much more your "style".
