My Ghetto-fied Picket Fence

Remember my cute little raised bed garden I showed ya a couple months ago? It looked something like this...

Well for the first time since we've lived in our house (which is going on seven years), we have rabbits. And you've already heard my rant about the squirrels...yeah they're not any better this year. So far we've caught only ONE sneaky squirrel and the rest taunt me every morning and evening as they eat my bird seed. Ugh. So between the rabbits and the squirrels, I'm kinda at my wits' end here. And of course to top it off, I've noticed my flowers slowly disappearing and random tomatoes on the ground in the garden. I'm not happy. So I've taken things into my own hands. Since this pregnant body is in NO WAY breakin' out a shovel in this insanely ridiculous hot weather, I decided to rig my own fence to (hopefully) keep those wascally wabbits away. This is it. I'm proud. And also mortified at the same time.

It doesn't look half-bad from this angle, but just you wait.

Getting closer...

What--doesn't everyone have a random plastic tote being used as a fence post?

Close-up. Oh and I forgot--there's an upside down chair further on down holding up the other side. Nice.

But seriously, besides the temporary "supports," can't you see the potential of the cutest, quaintest little garden here? Aww...seriously. I have a thing for picket fences and cute gardens, and I think I may have one in the works here (if we ever get around to this project). I think I need a farm hand around my place to keep up with all the projects that pop into my head.

Here are some really cute gardens I've pinned that are so stinkin' adorable. Even if you have the blackest of thumbs, I'm sure you'd have to agree with me.

If we do tackle this project, I think I'll want to make way for another raised bed or two.

Adorable, right? Tell me I'm not the only one who can see past the ghetto-ness into the potential of a lovely little garden. I'm not crazy, right? (Or maybe I am for adding yet another thing on to the to-do list...ugh.)

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I can see the potential!!! Love the fence around the above ground boxes. My husband has six or eight boxes. We have mole and cat problems here. The neighbors cat uses our garden boxes for a litter box!!! I am going to show hubby these fence ideas. Thanks for sharing!! Have a great weekend!!!!

    1. I love raised beds...that's awesome you have lots of them. Hope you can get rid of those pesky cats! How annoying...we go to all this work just for an animal to ruin it! Good luck:)

  3. Honestly if you had not pointed out I probably wouldn't have noticed how you rigged the fence, I was just thinking charming fenced garden. Hope this helps I didn't get one blackberry or blueberry because soemthing else would get to them before I did. Claire keeps pulling off my tomatoes and eating them so I can never win.
