Remember that horse head lamp I got a while back that I made over? No? Well let me refresh your memory.
Used to look like this?
You can read more about the transformation here. Well I was never completely happy with the lamp shade I stuck on it...I just put it on 'cause that was what I had at the time. See what I mean? Just a little too top heavy/awkward.
Well my horse head lived like this for quite some time. And even had another traumatic event happen to it (besides the ugly shade fiasco). Let me tell ya about it. Okay, so I hate flies. I mean HATE them. There's nothing more gross to me than those germy creatures flying around landing and pooping on wherever they rest. Ugh. Can't stand 'em. So naturally whenever a fly is in my house, I go all loco on them. I seriously am a mad woman and will not/cannot relax until that thing is squished against a pane of glass. So one day this really fast fly (Aren't those the absolute worst? You see them for a millisecond then they're gone.) was in my living room and I was after this darn fly literally all evening. Then the amazing happened--it finally landed. But it landed right on the right ear of my horse head lamp. At this crazed point in my life, I didn't even care--that fly was MINE. So I swatted and that poor horse ear fell right off. And that's not even the worst of it--that stupid fly took off. I missed it! UGH!!!
Poor one-eared horse! It was a clean break though so I just stuck the little ceramic piece back on intended to glue it someday. Never happened. Then one day I saw this white thing on the floor, stared at it for a while, trying to figure out what it belonged to but with no luck. So into the recyclable bin it went. Until about a week or so later, while watching TV, I noticed my one-eared horse. Then it all made sense. So I begged Mitch to dig through the trash to see if it was in there. What a good husband I have! He did and sure enough, he found it. Disaster averted! So I've glued the piece back, you ask? Nope. Not yet. Don't have the right glue:/ Someday...
But anyway...sheesh this is turning into a long narrative...let me show ya what I found at a yard sale this past weekend.
I just picked it up thinking I could always use a cute shade in my life, never thinking of my little horsey. Until late last night (when I should have been fast asleep) and it dawned on me that it might be the perfect solution for my odd-looking horse lamp. So here's horsey all fitted with a new shade. He's much happier. And so am I.
Cute, right?
And BTW, isn't that orchid gorg? Yes, it's real. Mitch had it sent to me in the mail when he was away on a week-long trip to Canada. Have I told you how awesome my husband is? Yeah, he is.
So anyway, there's the tale of the horse head lamp. Whatcha think? Better? Worse? Death to all flies? (you better agree with that last one or we can't be friends anymore.)

Happy Wednesday:)
Love both!! I think you might need a slightly smaller harp on your lamp so that more of the "lamp stuff" (technical term!) is covered up. It's amazing what a difference that makes! You can get them at any of the big box stores.
ReplyDeleteYeah I was thinking too much of the metal middle was showing. Thanks for the tip, Melissa! Will def check it out!
DeleteIt's awesome. I guess I missed the original post about him... he is amazing! This shade is defnitely a better fit!
ReplyDeleteSo much better! I love the new shade!
ReplyDeleteI like it but did you glue that ear on? Mitch may have a thing to say about dumpster diving the second time for the same item!!! :-) Ma
ReplyDeleteI love the new shade! It goes with the horse head so much better!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love how the blue detail on the lamp makes the the entire thing look so fresh. (Really cool horse head transformation, by the way!)
ReplyDeleteSecond, I think it's funny that you think about these things when you should be asleep. I'm on the only one!

That thing use to be so ugly. I love the new shade, it works so much better. The blue band is pretty cool too.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the title of this post took me back to my Nancy Drew novel reading days. It sounds so much like a case she'd be solving! haha Love the lamp shade...and the orchid is most definitely gorg. There's another "Kat" word for Melissa and I to use. You got us using redic. lol :)
ReplyDeletehaha...yes, Nancy Drew! Loved that girl. Also glad to hear I'm building up your vocabulary;)
DeleteWow! Great transformation!! So adorable! Love your vignette too!
ReplyDeleteI love this lamp transformation! Great job! The ribbon detail on the shade is so pretty. Urgghh... I hate those pesky flies! I just had one the other day and finally got him! YES! :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog from YHL. I love it! I wanted to tell you how much I adore this lamp makeover and what a huge improvement that awsome shade was to him. I was also going to drop a hint about a shorter harp to cover up the lamp works, but it looks like someone already did. Carry on! :)

Sorry - also meant to say that they're only a couple of dollars at Target (and maybe even cheaper at Walmart?). I am crushing on him so hard! Seriously -
