Mitch took the day off work and had "things" planned of which I had no idea. So after he let me sleep in a bit, I got up to find two cards and a little necklace from Ry. So sweet. I will post pics of it when we untangle the chain. Seriously. We can't get the stinkin' knot out.
Then Mitch announced that I was going to The Spa at Intercourse Village for the day. Shoot--the man deserves to be talked up, does he not, girls? So off I went into the wild blue yonder ready for a day of complete relaxation and pampering. The Spa was not a new place to me. I have gone there several times before and have loved it each and every time I've gone.
So first on the agenda was a massage. Samantha always does my massages. She's pretty much amazing. And so fun. So there we were shootin' the breeze as she worked out the kinks. Seriously, Sam is a miracle worker. I have this "neck thing" that when I'm stressed, I can hardly turn my head to the left. She always straightens me out. And it stays pain-free for months.
Next up was a facial. I've only ever gotten one facial and it was at some other spa. And I remember walking out of it thinking it wasn't anything great. Well not Monday's facial! I had tiny Carol--with the softest hands ever--working on me. She did her whole scrub thing and steamer and mask on me and it felt wonderful. And while we were waiting for the mask to do its thing, she even gave me a hand massage. Heaven, I tell ya.
Next was lunch at the Inn right next door. Here was my menu.
Can we say delish? And I enjoyed a cup of hot tea in the parlor while nibbling on my white chocolate cranberry biscotti.
Then back over to the spa for part two. First up, a pedicure. I always feel sorry for the people who give pedicures. I can only imagine some of the nasty feet they have to deal with. Ugh, I'm getting grossed out just thinking about it. My usual girl, Jessie (love her), has off on Mondays. So it was up to Nadine to get 'er done. She was a doll. She pampered me like I was a queen. We talked about kids, grandkids, husbands, recipes, even a recent surgery she underwent. That was in between reading the Christmas edition of Southern Living, of course.
I went with a sparkly berry color on the toes and a light silvery-taupe on the hands. Of course I promptly bumped my nails into who-knows-what when Nadine was finished so if you look closely you can see that my nails are not perfect. Oh well--that's life. At least my life. So I wouldn't let Nadine fix them. I told her it'll remind me that I'm the Mom of two wild and crazy boys.
When I walked into the door upon arriving home, along with Ry's and B's screams, this beautiful cake greeted me. Mitch ordered it from a friend who makes cakes out of her home. He emailed her the header of my blog and asked if she could use that for inspiration. And this is what she came up with.
Isn't it beautiful? It's a yellow cake with raspberry filling inside. Yum-o. We have yet to dive into it though for reasons you'll soon discover. Check out some of Rosanne's other amazing cakes here.
And did you notice the stools above? Yes, Mitchell got those for my birthday. And yes, those are the same stools that I blogged about here.
Then we dropped the kids off at the babysitters' house (thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Reed!) and went out to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Which just happens to be my favorite restaurant in the whole world.
These were some sort of crab Rangoon that we ordered for an appetizer. They were little crunchy folds with creamy deliciousness inside.
Check out Mitch's face in this picture. It looks like he's thinking, "Well I guess if I have to eat this stuff..." And that stuff was some sort of deep fried chicken with veggies and rice. Of which he enjoyed every last drop.
And I got some sort of chicken cashew salad that was amazing. I just noticed--I guess we both were cravin' some Asian cuisine.
And then for dessert, we shared a piece of their new Reese's Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake Cheesecake. Needless to say, we couldn't even finish that shared piece. Oh my word.
So all in all, it was a pretty amazing day. And I have my wonderful Mitchell to thank for that. But before you all start gaging and/or completely hating me, let me just tell you that one really exciting part of the day included you guys, my readers. I asked the spa if they would give a gift card to one lucky reader of my blog and they agreed! So here I am to announce that one of you guys will be enjoying some of the things I enjoyed--and all for free! I'm giving away a $45 spa gift card. And here's how it works:
