Bryce's 1st Birthday

Bryce's 1st birthday was a couple of weeks ago and we rocked out in low-key Hertzler style. Ry helped make some cupcakes and our little family sang and ate together thanking the Lord for our little B. He's been such a blessing to us. (Now if only Ryder felt the same way.)

Random fact: I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie. Neither is Ina apparently because in the Oct. edition of House Beautiful, she admits to coming up with alternative recipes for the Thanksgiving Day staple. This year it's pumpkin cupcakes. Shoot, when I read that I knew I had to try it. So that's what we made for B's birthday. You can find the recipe here.

Ryder's all decked out in his apron ready to help. Future pastry chef here, people.

Gotta love the fake smile.

The recipe calls for crushed up Heath bars sprinkled on top but I didn't have any so I resorted to shaved chocolate. Not a bad substitution in my estimation. Ya gotta make due with what ya got, right?

The icing Ina made was some sort of maple cream cheese but I wasn't sure about the maple part. I just stuck to good ol' regular cream cheese icing. You really can't go wrong with that--it was the best part.

B's just not sure about this whole candle thing.

Stare into the light, child.

Go to town, little man! I think he was a fan of the cupcakes.

There's B's first birthday "party." Happy birthday, Brycee Miles or as Ry would call you, Brycee Piles. We love you so much!
